Speaker 2012

Dr. Rob Williams (www.robwilliamsmedia.com) is a Vermont-based musician, historian, consultant, journalist, and media educator/maker who founded HigherMind Mediaworks (www.highermindmedia.com), teaches F2F and online media and communications courses at Champlain College and Sacred Heart University; serves as (web)editor and publisher of Vermont Commons: Voices of Independence independent newspaper (www.vtcommons.org); and just retired from board co-president of the Action Coalition for Media Education (www.acmecoalition.org).

He co-manages Vermont Yak Company (www.vermontyak.com) in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, a farm business raising grass-fed yaks for meat and agri-tourism, and plays “pholk-phunk” music in the three-piece Phineas Gage Project.

He writes: ”In my role as a Vermont-based media education consultant and public speaker interested in history, media, and education, I am privileged to be able to talk with a wide variety of people in classrooms and communities. Media literacy education currently fuses my ongoing interests in social, political and environmental history, formal education, media, and cultural studies. I am convinced that media literacy education is central to 21st century learning, and to fostering the health of our children, our culture, and our democracy.”
